Micro-credentials are a competency-based digital form of professional learning. Personalized, flexible, and performance-based, micro-credentials support educators in developing skills and acquiring knowledge to improve professional practice that supports student success.

Educators identify a competency they want to develop, submit evidence that they have mastered the competency for review, and receive a digital badge once the evidence is approved. In some states, the micro-credential even qualifies as continuing education units for district credit and/or state re-licensure.

To help NEA members continue their professional learning during this time of school closures, NEA has identified a list of micro-credentials that support distance learning. These micro-credentials do not require interaction with students or face-to-face learning, while still providing meaningful, relevant professional learning to educators.
